When saying “I don’t care” isn’t enough, just say this - Me Vale by Maná
In 1992, Maná came out with a song called Me Vale
So *dramatic head turn* who is Maná?
- Maná (formerly, Sombrero Verde) is a rock band from Mexico that formed in the late 80s
- Their first album as Maná came out in 1987 (which btw, GOOD LUCK trying to find this on any streaming platform)
- BUT the album that catapulted them to stardom was 1992's "¿Dónde Jugarán Los Niños?" (Where Will the Children Play?)
What does Me Vale mean 👀
- "Me Vale" is basically the equivalent of
Yup and this song basically talks about calling out hypocrisy and embracing one's own authenticity. With lyrics like
"Instead of scrubbing
And bothering me like this
Dedicate yourself to finding
what is wrong with you"
it's no wonder that this is one of their most popular deepcut songs.
This song is really straight forward but I wanted to see if I could find more info about this song. But I kinda went down a YouTube rabbit hole.
And here's what I found
A very 90s interview with Verónica Castro that's pretty wholesome aside from the inevitable "what's it like to have bras thrown at you" question.
Other weird things I learned while researching this song and Maná in general
Maná WAS PART OF FUELED BY RAMEN???
According to someone on Wikipedia, they are a part of Fueled by Ramen, a very famous record label known for signing emo acts like Paramore and Panic at the Disco. I went on their site and can confirm...that this is a false statement and the chances of us getting a Maná and Paramore collab are low...but never 0....
Last Note
There was a YouTube comment on one of the videos I saw of a live performance of "Me Vale" that translates to "If they're talking about you, that's a sign you're advancing in life"
Live life unapologetically bbys! ✨
