AYY VIDA MÍA - Que Nadie Sepa Mi Sufrir by La Sonora Dinamita

In 1990, La Sonora Dinamita released their cover of Que Nadie Sepa Mi Sufrir.

Who Is La Sonora Dinamita?

  • La Sonora Dinamita is a musical group from Colombia that has been around for 60 YEARS!!!

  • This quote from late member and founder of the group Lucho Argaín, states his vision for La Sonora Dinamita was to create a group “of excellent interpretive quality with international projection.”

  • During their formative years in Colombia, the band worked with a record label to make their first few albums and soon moved to Mexico where they found even more success and listeners throughout Central America.

  • What makes La Sonora Dinamita stand out is they always have special guests to perform vocals for the group, including Susana Velásquez who did the vocals for this cover song.

This Song is a cover?

  • yupppp. I was surprised to find this out too because this is the only version I’ve ever known.

  • The original song is actually by Hugo de Carril who is a tango singer from Argentina

  • I couldn’t find the original version sung by Hugo del Carril but I did find this other cover of this song by Alberto Castillo which I imagine sonunds closer to the original considering the original song was a Peruvian waltz.

What is This Song About?

  • Like a lot of songs nowadays, it’s about a breakup. The singer is basically confronting their unfaithful lover.

  • But interestingly enough, it’s also about this person not wanting others to know that they are actually suffering. The title itself explains this because it translates to “Let No One Know my Suffering”

Last Note

  • So one of my main takeaways from this is that La Sonora Dinamita has a very complex history and I need to know more about them

  • Second, it’s interesting how this VERY SAD song has transended various genres since its inception. A lot of people now recognize this sad song through a very upbeat melody. And we still see this method of music composition happening today.

  • Sometimes sadness = bangers
